Can I get a family membership?

Family membership options are still available. A family membership is for two adults and two children under 16 years of age from the same family residing in the same address. The volunteer obligations and benefits will only apply to one of the family members (not necessarily same).

Do I need to enter online or can I do it in person?

Online entries can be done anytime up until 5pm race eve. After that you need to enter in person on race morning. A surcharge of $10 per race is payable by runners who register and pay in person on the day. This is reduced to $5 if you have registered online previously and opted to 'pay at event'.

I have paid for a long race pack. Can I enter a shorter race?

Yes you can and our timing system will record your shorter run. However there is no refund for entering a shorter run. You must register the change on race day at the canteen. All race changes will be given a coloured sticker which has to be placed on the race bib.

If I don't want to enter for the whole series can I enter for specific months?

Can I keep my timing chip and bib number?

Series entrants will pay a $5 deposit for timing chip which they have to keep for the entire series. The deposit will be reimbursed when they return it. Any lost timing chips will be replaced on race day at an additional $5 deposit. Single event entries have to hand in both timing chip and bib numbers at the end of each race.

Also after the run we provide drinks and fresh fruit and at the canteen you can obtain hot drinks and hot showers. We often have a bbq and have various vendors/sponsors present at the canteen. We also have a lucky draw each month. Each race is scored and awards are given at the end of the series. The club also holds an end of season awards night. There is also ample parking.

I am not a very fast runner. Is SMC for me?

The SMC Road Race Series is a friendly and sociable running group for runners of all abilities. We encourage all runners of any ability or level to come to SMC and enjoy the ability to run in a group environment. We are sure that SMC will benefit you.

I am an elite runner. Is SMC just a social run?

The SMC courses are AA Certified accurate so any times you run will be recognised by Athletics Australia. A lead cyclist is provided for each run and there are generally a number of elite level runners in each race to provide competition.

How can I volunteer?

The SMC Road Race Series cannot function without volunteers. Volunteers are required for set up, manning drink stations, running the canteen etc. If you are able to volunteer please contact SMC. See the Contact Us page for details. Members must volunteer at least once each series to be eligible for awards and to qualify for the discounted membership fee.

Are there any rules?

The SMC Road Race Series races are run on the road in an industrial area of western Sydney. Generally the roads are very quiet on a Sunday morning but runner safety is paramount. The SES provides assistance with traffic control and their directions must be obeyed at all times. Failure to adhere to their directions may mean you will be disqualified and your time not recorded. Repeated violations may mean exclusion from the series. The roads are not closed and traffic has the right of way. Markers and signs are provided at crossing points and must be obeyed. See the Rules & Regulations page for more.

Who is the SMC?

The SMC Road Race Series is run by the Sydney Marathon Clinic & Amateur Athletic Club Incorporated. The club is run by a volunteer committee.

Can I represent SMC at other events?

We encourage members to wear their SMC gear at other events to help promote our series. We also enter teams into other events such as the 6 Foot Track.

How do I order SMC clothing?

You can order clothing when you register as a member. Otherwise you can order clothing by emailing our Uniform Officers Anne and Bert with details of your order. Check the Uniform page for details of available SMC club uniform gear. You can also purchase uniform gear at the canteen on race day.

Are MP3 players allowed during the race?

For safety reasons runners are not permitted to wear MP3 players during any of the SMC Road Race Series events. There is a 'minding bin' at the start of the race for any runner who turns up to the start line and is not aware of this ban.
The ongoing support of the SES at the SMC Road Race Series events is dependent upon us enforcing this rule therefore anyone who is found to be racing with an MP3 player will have their results withheld and be disqualified from the event.
